???????? Join the Gardening for All classes: https://cursosminhasplantas.com.br/co... How can such a small bug make gardeners shudder? When it appears in a group! That's what mealybugs are like: when you notice them, there's not just one individual, but a gang! Our gardener Carol Costa shows you a super simple trick to get rid of infestations of this pest. There are several types of mealybugs: shell-shaped, orthezia, mealy, comma, waxy or nailhead... there are a huge number! The good part is that, to remove large infestations, the procedure is the same and the ingredients are very easy to find: water, a used toothbrush and a piece of coconut soap. Dip the brush in the coconut soap and scrub the area of the leaf attacked by the mealybugs. While the brush removes the bug from the leaf, the soap runs out. If the plant has soft leaves, use a used sponge, the kind with two sides. Choose the softer side for very delicate plants and the more abrasive side for slightly more resistant leaves, as Carol shows in the video. Very hard plants, such as cacti, can also suffer from mealybugs and the treatment is the same, but with a little trick: use a piece of cardboard to hold the plant while you brush. At the end of brushing, wet the plant thoroughly to remove excess soap. Don't worry about the substrate or the mealybugs that fall there, nature will take care of it and the little bug will die with the soap. The sooner you remove the mealybugs, the fewer marks your plant will have. Oh, and keep an eye on fertilization: pests attack plants when there is a deficiency of some nutrient and, in the case of mealybugs, a lack of calcium is the main cause. ????????
