As competition intensifies around the world in the aerospace field, Japan is also rushing to develop and strengthen it as a core industry for the new era. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is involved in numerous national projects, is a representative of Japan in this field. After the launch of the first unit of the next-generation large rocket "H3" led by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) was failed, a thorough investigation into the cause was carried out and the second attempt was somehow successful. However, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' jet passenger aircraft development project (Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation MRJ), which began in 2008 for the first time in half a century, was postponed six times and the plan itself was canceled in February 2023. During this time, approximately 1 trillion yen in development costs and 15 years were spent. Since the aircraft industry has a wide base and many domestic manufacturers, large and small, had high expectations, there is no end to the voices of regret from those involved. In the midst of this, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced a new strategy for the development of a new completed aircraft in March of this year, based on the results and issues of the old MRJ. Based on future demand forecasts for the aircraft sector, it said that "a game-changing opportunity has arrived," and that it will promote technological development and international collaboration for the development of domestic passenger aircraft by 2035. The withdrawal from the MRJ could shake the trust in the technological capabilities of Japanese companies. How will the current plan summarize that failure and use it in a new strategy? We explore the future of Japan's aerospace industry through the testimony of key people and other sources. #MRJ #Mitsubishi Heavy Industries #Domestic passenger aircraft #JAXA #H3 #Airplane #Space #Gaia's Dawn #TV Tokyo BIZ
