Mammoths are iconic animals of prehistory. For nearly 5 million years, these colossi reigned over several continents. What happened to these majestic animals? Why did they disappear? The Earth has experienced several mass extinctions, often caused by natural disasters. But there is no evidence that such an event took place at the time the mammoths disappeared, and the mysterious disease that decimated them only affected large mammals.
