Most bands break up because of internal conflict. The official reason is differences in musical style, but the real reason they're not popular is because of differences in opinions among the band members. So, the number one reason for bands breaking up after they've become popular is dissatisfaction with their share of the money. Usually it's either the person who makes less money whining, or the person who makes more money from producing songs, who realizes that while in a band they get a smaller share, when they go solo they get it all for themselves.
