Whether the car has been involved in a minor accident or is old, sometimes the radiator, thermostat, and water hoses fail. We are talking about small losses of antifreeze, not about the situation where the frontal accident broke it and we lost all the coolant, in which case we are definitely talking about some damage that will send it to the trash. But most of the time it happens that the radiator has small leaks, which leaves us without antifreeze in a few months. What do we do in such situations? The car radiator is a piece made of two elements: an aluminum body and plastic caps. Before, the entire radiator was built of aluminum, copper, or brass, but now, to reduce manufacturing costs, the radiator has a body made of aluminum and plastic caps. The joining of the two materials is done mechanically, by pressing aluminum clips over the lip of the caps, fixed with silicone gaskets. Over time, these clamps loosen and allow antifreeze to escape, along with the aging of the gasket from the change in temperature, from hot to cold and vice versa.
