Today, December 10, 2020, Clarice Lispector would have turned one hundred. To honor the author's centenary, we made a video about her life and literature – which causes astonishment, strangeness, amazement and escapes labels. Clarice Lispector was born in the small town of Chechelnyk, in Ukraine. Her Jewish family was fleeing the persecution of Jews and was just passing through the city when Clarice was born – this “in transit” birth is one of the great keys to understanding her work, with several characters out of place. She studied Law, although she never practiced the profession. A year after entering university, Clarice began her career as a journalist – which she would carry on for the rest of her life, in parallel with her career as a writer. Her first novel was “Perto do coração selvagem” (Close to the Wild Heart) and received acclaim from great critics, such as Antonio Candido, who noted the author's great exploration of vocabulary. The author became one of the greatest names in Brazilian literature and died in 1977, but her work has accompanied and continues to accompany many readers to this day.
