Against the backdrop of Iran's strategic defeat in Syria and the already tense relations with Israel reaching the brink of war, serious processes are also taking place within the country. The rumors that have emerged over the past week regarding the resignation of the country's President, Masoud Pezeshki, indicate an intensification of the struggle between factions within the government, despite the fact that the regime is facing significant external threats. The dangerous aspect of the issue for the Iranian government is also that the struggle in question is taking place against the backdrop of the worsening economic situation in the country, including the deepening energy crisis and the strengthening of social discontent as a result of the rapid increase in inflation. However, the widespread coverage of the news about Pezeshki's resignation in the Iranian media and social networks gives grounds to say that many forces representing different wings of the government, as well as a number of opposition groups abroad, are mobilizing against the Iranian president. It should be noted that this is not the first time that ideas have been raised regarding the resignation of Masoud Pezeshki, whose leadership of the Iranian government has not yet been completed for half a year. And each time, various issues are used as an excuse to voice this demand. For example, in recent months, a wide-ranging propaganda campaign has been conducted around the alleged illegality of Pezeshki's deputy for strategic issues, former Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, holding the post of vice president. This campaign, which has become particularly persistent in the country's parliament and is supported by Speaker Mohammadbaghir Qalibaf, has taken on such an ugly character that in late November, parliamentarian Ahmad Bigdeli expressed his protest against the issue in the following way: "Why has Zarif become the main topic of some of our colleagues? Execute Zarif once and for all, let's see if these gentlemen will be comfortable? The people have problems such as water, electricity, and work, but we come to the Parliament in the morning, Zarif, and leave the Parliament in the afternoon, Zarif! Please, expel Zarif from this country, let these gentlemen be comfortable. Enough!" Another MP, Kamran Ghazanfari, openly threatened the president and stated that Pezeshkian was the main target of the attacks on Javad Zarif, and declared that they would dismiss Pezeshkian if he did not dismiss Zarif. #Iran #president #resignation #Pezeshkian #Jalili
