Yamandú Orsi, the left-wing candidate and political heir of former President José “Pepe” Mujica, won the Uruguayan presidential elections in the second round with 49.84% of the votes, beating the center-right candidate Álvaro Delgado, who obtained 45.86%. Orsi is a moderate politician, who has said that he does not want radical transformations and is open to dialogue and talks about consensus with the right. At the regional level, he has gone so far as to call the Venezuelan government a “dictatorship” while saying that he admires Brazilian President Lula Da Silva and Colombian President Gustavo Petro and Chilean President Boric.
