Sometimes, we called them 'Devil Worshippers', sometimes 'Sun Worshippers' and sometimes 'Atheists'. Throughout history, Yazidis lived as a closed, introverted community due to the oppression that sometimes amounted to cruelty due to their beliefs. For this reason, they were forced to hide their beliefs at certain periods of history. Today, most of the Yazidis who remain in Turkey in very small numbers live in Iraqi Kurdistan. Laleş Valley near Şeyxan Village in Dohuk is their place of pilgrimage. They accept the Wednesday after the 13th day of April every year as the beginning of the new year. Yazidis define themselves as the first people in the world to believe in one god, namely Allah. They have believed in the existence of Allah since Adam. There are 76 known decrees about the Yazidis who were oppressed by other religions in many periods throughout their history. Each decree issued brought with it death, fear, oppression and forced migration. For these reasons, some changed their religion and some had to hide their faith. Those who remained in the region they lived in kept their worship secret for many years. Their holy book, Mushafe Reş (Black Mushaf), describes the mythology of the Yazidi faith and the Book El Celve written by Sheikh Adi, explains the practical rules of this faith. Yazidis mention the name of Allah in their daily lives and every step they take. For them, Allah created the heavens and the earth. His angels carry out his orders. They have great respect for Azazi, the Angelic Peacock. They consider him the first angel who carries out the orders of Allah, in other words, the head of the Angels. They never use the word satan, which is frequently repeated by people of other religions. They also do not like it when another person pronounces this word in their presence. In the Yazidi faith, it is believed that angels were created first when the universe came into being. The first created one is Azazil, known as Melek-i Tavus. Azazil is the lord and the greatest of the angels. In other religions, Melek-i Tavus is called differently. However, Yazidis do not find him worthy of that word. After Melek-i Tavus, Derdail, Israel, Mikail, Şemail, Gabriel, and Nurail were created.
