Mrs. Herawati Supolo-Sudoyo is a molecular biologist who is also one of the founders of the Eijkman Institute. She focuses on DNA mapping, one of her projects is mapping the DNA of thousands of Indonesians to develop precision medicine. One of her most famous scientific applications is the collaboration between the Eijkman Institute and the Police to find the perpetrators of the 2004 Australian Embassy suicide bombing — which thanks to her and her team's hard work, the perpetrators were identified in just two weeks. In this conversation, Prof. Hera traces the origins of Indonesian ancestors from a genetic perspective. She raises the issue of the inequality of global genetic data which is currently still dominated by Europeans. In fact, the diversity of genetic data is greatly needed in the medical world, such as the development of drugs and vaccines. #Chronicles #BagusMuljadi #HerawatiSudoyo ---------------------- Episode notes: https://endgameid.notion.site/Chronic... ---------------------- 0:00:00 - Intro 0:01:27 - Forensic DNA: Find the suicide bomber 0:12:47 - Indonesian human genes 0:26:47 - What is genetic data for? 0:36:41 - Stigma of genetic diseases: “Race” vs “Descent” 0:39:18 - Regional boundaries: Should they be based on administration or ethnicity? 0:44:19 - Making science and technology commonplace 0:49:55 - “Another pandemic is coming (at) anytime!” 1:01:22 - Is there any optimism about the direction of Indonesian research?
