Biele The Carpathians are not only a refuge for thousands of species of plants and animals, but also for hundreds of old and local varieties of apple, pear, cherry and plum trees. Do names like Dúhotnatka, Medovka, Maštrka or Holubička mean something to you? Maybe not, but know that centuries of breeding and life of our ancestors in the bosom of nature are hidden behind them. These varieties carry a number of unmistakable tastes, aromas and other properties that predestinate them for various ways of use, from direct consumption to drying or burning. Unfortunately, due to the lack of interest in farming, this precious gene pool began to disappear right before our eyes. Local conservationists, however, decided to save it and therefore crossed the beautiful region from Myjava to Lednica to discover the White Carpathian fruit treasure. But it is not only the aforementioned hundreds of varieties, as it might seem at first glance. There are also hundred-year-old solitary trees, historic orchards and gardens, and drying fruit, but last but not least, local fruit growers, thanks to which this sweet treasure has been preserved until today. This 54-minute documentary film will take you through a landscape full of colors, smells and tastes and show you the people who make them still a living part of the White Carpathians.
