When it comes to choosing a new mid-size luxury saloon, there’s nothing better than this trio – the new BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. The question is, which one should you choose? Well, Matt is ready to put all three through a series of brutal tests to find out which one is the best! So, let’s take a closer look at the trio. First up, we have the new BMW 5 Series. From the outside, it’s unmistakably a BMW, although some of the styling changes make it hard to tell. Thankfully, it hasn’t gone the way of the 3 Series and still got a new grille! Inside, everything is soft and luxurious, with a huge infotainment screen as well as a digital display. Under the bonnet, the BMW 520i has a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that sends power to the rear wheels only, producing 208bhp. It’s priced at around £64,000. Next up is the Mercedes E-Class. This is arguably the most stylish and luxurious car, at least on the outside. There are even trim options to make it look just like the S-Class! Inside, it is also the most luxurious car on the market today. The seats are soft and the number of displays is astounding, with three of them! The seats are also very comfortable. This E300 has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet, and it is a hybrid, so it also has a small electric motor. It produces 313bhp and costs £77,000 in this trim level. Now it is time to take a closer look at the Audi A6. It had a minor facelift last year, but you would not notice it at first glance! It still looks quite nice on the outside, although it is not as comfortable as the previous two candidates. The interior is nice and all the seats are soft, but it still looks too plain compared to the previous cars. Then again, given its age, it’s also the cheapest, so that’s not too bad. And this budget beauty has a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine under the bonnet with an electric motor, so it can produce up to 299bhp. And it’s the only car here with all-wheel drive! This particular trim level costs around £66,000.
