※ This video is part of the <Documentary Prime - The Lost Genius Mathematician> broadcast on October 21, 2009. In the year 2000, the International Congress of Mathematicians presented seven difficult problems. These difficult problems were problems that had long blocked the path of the mathematical world. An American foundation promised a reward of 1 million dollars per problem to the mathematician who solved them. However, no one believed that these problems that had troubled mathematicians for over a hundred years would be solved right away. However, less than two years after the problems were presented, a proof for one of the problems was posted on the Internet. It was the 'Poincaré Conjecture', which was considered the most important of the seven difficult problems. This proof, posted on the Internet instead of in academic journals, did not attract any attention at first, but soon caught the eye of mathematicians. After two years of verification, it was recognized that this proof accurately solved the Poincaré Conjecture that had been pending for over a hundred years. However, the one who solved the problem left behind wealth and fame and went into seclusion in St. Petersburg, Russia. He even refused to accept the Fields Medal, which is called the Nobel Prize of mathematics. He didn't seem to care about the prize money. People around him say that he lives with his old mother on a monthly pension of 50,000 won. There are also rumors that he occasionally appears in the forest to pick mushrooms. Why did he disappear?
