TW: This program contains content that may be disturbing for children, young people and sensitive viewers. Cécile killed her son. In prison she tells her story. It is the story of a hopeless journey through hell that ended with this terrible crime. Their accounts form the central theme of the film. Other mothers who were sentenced to life imprisonment for the same crime also have their say. How can such an act be better understood? The documentary gives the voice to mothers who were sentenced to life imprisonment for infanticide, as well as those who defend, love and protect them: relatives, lawyers, psychologists. How can the act be better understood and how are they judged? Filmmaker Sofia Fischer speaks to some of them in France and Belgium. She tries to find out what role society has played in the development of these mothers and what role the justice system could play in ensuring that they are successfully reintegrated into society. What is revealed in the interviews is in stark contrast to many media reports on such cases. Sofia Fischer discovers the stories of loving mothers who have nothing to do with cold-blooded murderous monsters, but who mostly found themselves in a hopeless situation due to domestic and sexual violence and despaired. Without forgetting the tragic fate of the children, the film analyses the systemic causes of child murder from a long-neglected perspective: that of violence against women. A profound examination of this aspect is an essential step on the way to preventing such acts.
