The 2007 Tour de France was dominated until the sixteenth stage by the Danish Michael Rasmussen. But the protagonist of the Grande Boucle was unexpectedly Davide Cassani, former cyclist and Rai commentator. During the eighth stage with arrival in Tignes, Cassani told live on Rai, without any malice, that he had met Rasmussen in June in the Dolomites. Cassani had unwittingly opened Pandora's box, as Rasmussen should not have been there based on what he had communicated to the anti-doping control bodies. From that moment on, Rasmussen's figure became more and more controversial, with the passing of the days other irregularities emerging. Rasmussen was then removed from his own team, Rabobank, after a conversation between team manager De Rooij and Cassani.
