Drug-resistant mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder are a challenge for today's psychiatry. However, when traditional methods do not bring the expected results, modern science offers alternative, less popular forms of therapy. One of them is transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive and safe method of stimulating the brain using electromagnetic pulses. How does TMS work? How effective is this method? Can everyone undergo stimulation? These and many other questions are answered by Dr. Weronika Dębowska, assistant at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Medical University of Warsaw, graduate of SWPS University. Dr. Weronika Dębowska - She completed psychology studies at SWPS University, and then obtained a doctoral degree, defending her doctoral thesis in the field of neurobiology with distinction at the M. Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is a scholarship holder of the START program of the Foundation for Polish Science. She works as an assistant at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Medical University of Warsaw. She is a co-founder of the TMS Clinic, a TMS therapy center. Her scientific interests include brain neuroplasticity, neuroimaging, and technical and practical aspects of non-invasive neurostimulation techniques. She is the author of numerous publications and scientific papers in the field of neurobiology and psychiatry. Member of the Biological Psychiatry Section of the Polish Psychiatric Association and the Clinical TMS Society. All meetings were held as part of the "Brain Days 2023" conference, organized by the NeuroPsyche Scientific Club of SWPS University as part of the World Brain Week. The Psyche Zone of SWPS University is a project popularizing psychological knowledge at the highest substantive level and discovering the possibilities of action offered by psychology in various areas of both private and professional life.
