We visited the city of Belo Vale, Minas Gerais, where the Slave Museum is located. The museum consists of six rooms on its upper floor, where it is possible to see pieces and utensils related to the “Big House” that were used and owned by the masters of the time. On the lower floor, there is a large courtyard and in the center a statue of a slave being whipped in the pillory. Alongside this courtyard, there are slave quarters that inside protect pieces related to the period of slavery, these are pieces of work and punishments that were applied to slaves and other artifacts related to the Indians (the first enslaved people in the country) and quilombolas. In total, the museum preserves more than four thousand pieces that reflect the period of slavery experienced in our country over 358 years. We used this video to pay tribute to the African culture that is so important in our country.
