Hiking food or outdoor food!? The heaviest thing you are likely to carry in your hiking backpack is the food. On the hike, it is important that you carry the right type of food. Food that contains as much energy and nutrition as possible, as you do not want to carry around unnecessary weight. I go through the ones I bring for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks. The food I have with me only requires hot water and you get that from a Gas or Spirit kitchen. The fuel for the gas stove is light but weighs so you don't want to bring an unnecessary amount, the fuel for the spirit stove weighs a little more and the same applies there. If you intend to make a fire, you don't have to think about cooking and cooking time. This food I show is hiking food that I myself eat and that I think works, it is cheap and easy to prepare. There is an abundance of freeze-dried dishes in all possible flavors, they are tasty and only require hot water. Freeze-dried, however, costs a penny and is not exactly a substantial dinner... It is of course fine to dry your own hiking food, but it takes time, time you might rather be out on tour! On a mountain hike, I want the food to only require hot water and barely that, they are good if they can just as well be eaten cold! Where do you eat on a hike or what is outdoor food for you?
