Lia brings provocations about the symbolic and material privileges of whiteness and invites us to reflect on the responsibility and place of white people in the anti-racist struggle. Lia Vainer Schucman is a Social Psychologist and Anti-Racist Activist. She holds a PhD in Social Psychology from USP and is currently a PhD candidate at the Center for New Racial Studies at the University of California. She has two books under her belt: “Entre o encardido o branco e o branquíssimo: branquitude, hierarchy e poder na cidade de São Paulo” (Between the dirty, the white and the very white: whiteness, hierarchy and power in the city of São Paulo) and “Famílias Interraciais:tensãos entre cor e amor” (Interracial Families: Tensions between color and love). She is currently a Professor at UFSC and a researcher in Psychology and Ethnic-Racial Relations, and is a reference in studies on Whiteness. At TEDxFloripa, she will bring some provocations about “What is the role and responsibility of white people in the anti-racist struggle?” This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
