What's inside a wind turbine? We visited a turbine at the Montjoyer wind farm in the Drôme, with Stéphane Subrin, operations engineer for the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR). The 100% renewable electricity producer bought and renovated the farm, which consisted of wind turbines that were nearly 20 years old. The turbine visited is based on an original Jeumont mast topped with a more recent Goldwind nacelle. Standing 46 m tall (at the nacelle), it has a maximum power of 750 kW. This is a modest size and power model, with current wind turbines measuring between 80 and 150 m tall and producing around 3 MW.
