Livestock farming is an activity that consists of the management and exploitation of domesticable animals for production purposes, for their use (see dairy industry, poultry farming, fish farming, pig farming). Depending on the livestock species, various derived products can be obtained, such as meat, milk, eggs, hides, wool and honey, among others.1 The science in charge of the study of livestock farming is zootechnics and the professionals directly in charge of the development of animal production are ranchers, assisted by zootechnicians and animal production engineers, in close collaboration with veterinarians who are in charge of the prevention and control of animal diseases.
