CGIP – Consumer Guidance Institute Portugal – analyzed the main vehicle insurance offers available in Portugal. Of the 20 brands initially selected for analysis, only 10 could actually be analyzed. The reasons for this reduction are due to the delay in submitting proposals or the existence of obstacles in contracting the product (having an account at X bank, for example). The insurance companies analyzed were: Ageas Caravela Fidelidade Logo Mapfre N West Insurance OK! Teleseguros Seguro Continente Tranquilidade Methodology We developed an analysis model that encompasses the main criteria to be evaluated when choosing car insurance. We have identified four essential pillars, these being: Prices Products Website and Simulator Customer service We consider that all points are extremely important, but we have identified that the offer of additional products and coverage is a criterion that is less valued than the others. Therefore, this factor has a weight of 10% in the final model; the weight of each of the remaining criteria is 30%. The Ageas insurance company stands out for being the only one to have the option to include tire insurance. To analyze products & additional coverage, we check insurers' offers, general and special conditions and the types of protection offered. Prices Prices are an important part when purchasing a product. In the case of insurance, it is necessary to analyze what is actually offered by the insurance company. To this end, we defined three packages that covered the main needs of consumers. We highlight that we use the same profile for all analyses, that is, car model, license plate, driver profile. Among each company's rates, we identified the most price-sensitive offer that met the coverage needs of the respective profile. This price was used for profile analysis. Bonus and malus systems also influence the price, albeit from a more long-term perspective. For your analysis, we measure the maximum possible bonus and the minimum time to reach the maximum bonus. In this category, the Logo insurance company stands out from its main competitors. Website and Simulator The digital world has increasingly gained importance. Information that was previously passed on by agents and that required trips to stores or phone calls is now obtained in a few seconds. Transparency and usability are key to a good customer experience and the layout and information contained allow consumers to make the best choice. Practically almost all insurance companies offer some type of simulator on their website. For this point we analyze its existence, its functionality and requested data. The insurance companies with the best results in this section were N Seguros, Tranquilidade and Logo. Customer support service This type of service is quite comprehensive and operators must be prepared to answer questions about the products, provide assistance, rectify situations, etc. We resorted to the use of mysterious calls and emails to quantify this point. The service provided was generally very good, with only a few flaws. The main weakness involves the delay in getting a response via email/contact form. The Logo insurance company appears, once again, as the leader. Detailed results Two companies stood out in this study: Logo, leader of this study. In addition to an excellent overall result, the company stands out for its prices and customer service. Tranquility, second place. It achieved excellent results overall and in terms of price points, namely the bonus and malus system. OK! Teleseguros is in third place. This is mainly due to its strong point, which is the prices charged. More companies presented strong points, such as Fidelidade's good price/quality ratio.
