Data from INCA (National Cancer Institute) for the three-year period from 2023 to 2025 estimate 74,000 new cases of breast cancer and almost 72,000 of prostate cancer per year in Brazil. These types are the most common in the country. According to data from the Ministry of Health, available on the Cancer Radar platform, more than half of the women who sought care from the SUS (Unified Health System) to treat breast cancer in the last three years sought care late. When they received the diagnosis, they already had the disease in an advanced or metastatic stage. The sooner breast cancer is detected, the greater the chances of treatment and cure. The same recommendation applies to prostate cancer. The disease can appear in four stages or phases, from the least aggressive to the most aggressive. In general, the initial phase is asymptomatic and does not affect the patient's life. In the advanced phase, the disease can cause pain, the urge to urinate all the time, including at night (called nocturia), blood when urinating and erectile dysfunction. To talk about the subject, this Monday (27), National Cancer Awareness Day, Priscila Camazano talks to Victoria Damasceno, editor of Saúde e Todas. Live, from Monday to Friday, the program Como é que é? invites reporters, editors and columnists from the newspaper to discuss politics, economy, culture, education, technology and everything that is a topic in the country. The broadcast takes place on the newspaper's channels on YouTube, Facebook and Twitch. After the live broadcast, all episodes are also available in audio format on the main podcast aggregators.
