Thousands of teachers have been forcibly removed from state schools in São Paulo following a resolution implemented by the Education Department of the Tarcísio de Freitas government. Teachers, students and members of parliament denounce the measure as yet another attack on education in the state. In a note sent to the press, the Education Department of the State of São Paulo claims that the teachers are not being dismissed and that they will remain active in the department for the 2025 school year, “but in other units of the Full-Time Education Program or regular ones”. The Department of Education also points out that “the reallocation of the unit is planned according to an assessment carried out by the administration, management team and Education Directorate”. Regarding the police repression, it was reported that teams from the Military Police School Patrol were preventively sent to the José Vieira de Moraes State School on November 13, and the action ensured the exit of students who were being blocked by protesters. There were no reports of injuries. A 44-year-old man and a 17-year-old student were taken to the nearest police station, where they were questioned and released.
