Our uniforms define a good part of who we are as healthcare workers, it's true. We all remember the first day we put one on, but very few know everything that wearing it entails. What is behind a healthcare professional? What are their fears, concerns and dreams? What is going on in their daily lives? What situations do they have to deal with? Voces del Cuidado is a project by Enfermera en apuros that gives voice to what many do not know and others do not dare to tell. From healthcare workers, for healthcare workers. In this first chapter, Rosemary, a TCAE with 14 years of experience in Emergency and Nursing Homes, opens her heart to us, telling us the harsh reality of our elderly abandoned after administrative discharges from the hospital. Why does it happen? In what context? What happens next? With emotion and honesty, Rosemary reveals the most human side of healthcare personnel: inevitable farewells, emotions impossible to leave behind and the invisible weight of caring for lives every day.
