VISIT THE WEBSITE AND SEE ALL THE DETAILS: https://mastercidadania.com.br/ NASA conducted the first investigation of an aircraft accident on another planet after the final flight of the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars, which occurred on January 18, 2024. Originally designed for five experimental flights in 30 days, Ingenuity exceeded expectations by completing 72 flights over almost three years, accumulating more than two hours of flight time and traveling distances more than 30 times greater than planned. During the 72nd flight, Ingenuity was scheduled to perform a brief vertical hop to evaluate its flight systems and photograph the surrounding area. Data indicate that it climbed to 40 feet (12 m), hovered, and began its descent after 19 seconds, landing at 32 seconds. However, images received six days later revealed significant damage to the rotor blades. The investigation suggests that the lack of surface textures during flight prevented the navigation system from providing accurate data. The system, which uses a downward-facing camera to track visual features, is designed to operate over flat, textured terrain. However, in the region of Flight 72, the terrain was steep and relatively featureless, making tracking difficult. This poor tracking resulted in high horizontal velocities upon landing, leading to a sudden impact that caused all four rotor blades to break off. The subsequent excessive vibrations and resulting power demands disrupted communications. The findings of this investigation will provide valuable insights for the development of future Mars helicopters and other aircraft intended to operate on other worlds.
