Lecture by prof. dr hab. Przemysław Urbańczyk, Science Café of the Science Festival, December 17, 2018 https://wszechnica.org.pl/wyklad/co-s... Archaeologist prof. Przemysław Urbańczyk talks about Bolesław the Brave's annexation of Milsko and Lusatia as well as Czerwieńskie Towns to his state. As a result of the events of 1018, Bolesław the Brave expanded the borders of the state inherited from Mieszko I, according to prof. Przemysław Urbańczyk becoming the most important ruler between the Western and Eastern Empires. The archaeologist talked about this during a lecture at the Science Café of the Science Festival. Przemysław Urbańczyk traced the events, the course of which was described by the Merseburg bishop Thietmar. In 1018, Bolesław the Brave concluded a peace treaty in Bautzen with Emperor Henry II, annexing Milsko and Lusatia to his state. The Polish ruler also secured imperial assistance in the upcoming war with the ruler of Kievan Rus, Yaroslav the Wise. The pretext for the expedition was Yaroslav the Wise's overthrow of the heir to the throne, Sviatopolk, whose wife was the daughter of Bolesław the Brave. As a result of the expedition, Brave entered Kiev and restored the power of his son-in-law. Leaving the city, he took with him considerable loot and on the way back to the country he regained the Cherven Towns lost by his father.
