World Prematurity Day: Although they save the lives of premature babies, breast milk donations ???? are considered normal food in Germany. How can that be? Feeding newborns is a headache for many parents. What helps with milk congestion? Can you freeze, thaw and heat breast milk? How to prepare pre-milk correctly? And is breast milk really the best thing for the baby? The right nutrition is particularly important for premature babies. One in ten extremely premature babies develops necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a severe intestinal inflammation. One risk factor is baby food based on cow's milk. Since mothers of premature babies hardly have any milk of their own, the little ones in the hospitals are dependent on milk donations. The problem: donor milk is in short supply. SWR Wissen is looking for solutions to the breast milk problem and is visiting Germany's first breast milk start-up.
