What is the cause of autism? Is it hereditary? Why, if there is a genetic burden in autism, are there cases of identical twins in which one is autistic and the other not? What are the first observable signs in babies who are within the spectrum? To talk about these interesting topics and answer these and more questions, I have invited Dr. Piedad Jaramillo, whom I had the privilege of meeting personally in Medellín. Piedad is a doctor and surgeon, with a Diploma in Special Needs and Developmental Disorders, and a Diploma in congenital errors of metabolism, parenting, and strategies for preventing child abuse and sexual abuse. She is also accredited in ADOS 2. In this conversation we speak from the medical perspective of autism, a more than necessary point of view.
