First reading: Zeph 3:14-18a Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion; shout for joy, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has redeemed you from your judgments; He has cast out your enemies! The Lord, the King of Israel, is in your midst! Fear no more evil! In that day it will be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion! Let not your hands be slack; the Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty savior! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will renew His love for you; He will shout over you with joy as on a solemn day.” Is 12:2-6 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust; I will not be afraid, for the Lord is my strength and song; He has become my salvation. And with joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation. Praise the Lord, call on His name! Declare His deeds among the nations; proclaim the excellency of His name! Sing to the Lord, for he has done marvelous things; let this be known in all the earth! Shout and be glad, you inhabitants of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you! Second reading: Phil 4:4–7 Brothers and sisters: Rejoice in the Lord always! I repeat, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is near! Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Gospel: Lk 3:10-18 At that time: The crowds asked John, “What then shall we do?” He answered them, “He who has two tunics should share with him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.” Tax collectors also came to be baptized and asked him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He said to them, “Do not exact more than you are appointed.” The soldiers also asked him, “And what should we do?” And he said to them, “Do no violence to anyone, do not accuse anyone wrongly, and be content with your wages.” The people were in expectation, and all were wondering in their hearts about John, whether he might be the Christ. So John said to them all, “I baptize you with water, but one mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.” And with many other motives John preached the gospel to the people. #dosasce #sermon #novaeva #dondamirstojic
