A travel program that travels all over the prefecture has left Shinshu! It's on the other side of the world, to Brazil! Brazil is the world's largest Japanese settlement, with about 2 million Japanese people, almost the same number as the people of Nagano Prefecture. Since the early 20th century, many Japanese and Shinshu people have been coming to Brazil as a national policy. More than 100 years after the first migration, this series travels around the state of São Paulo, searching for connections with Nagano Prefecture. São Paulo, the largest city in the southern hemisphere with a population of 12 million, has an Asian town called "Liberdade." The city is filled with Japanese anime, manga, and Japanese restaurants, and is a popular area among Brazilians. While walking around the city, we looked for connections with Japan. And we visited the Nagano Prefectural Association, which has about 170 households as members! We met a first-generation Japanese person born in Shinshu in Brazil! Yamaoka and I are from the same hometown? It was a surprising encounter!
