On a foggy Sunday morning of January 19, 1941, some students from the Patronato da Imaculada Conceição were walking near Sítio Arvoredo, accompanied by Mrs. Ana dos Santos Arruda (1895-1941), wife of the famous Ananias Arruda. Donaninha, as she was called, who was also accompanied by her daughter Rocivalda, felt unwell during the walk and suddenly died right there on the side of the road, victim of a brain aneurysm. Donaninha, who was staying at the Patronato, would spend a few days in the city on a civic-religious mission, returning to Baturité, where she lived, at the end of the month. Together with her husband, they were benefactors of numerous works linked to Catholicism, extremely devout, and possessed many assets. Ananias was a multifaceted man: a farmer, businessman, politician, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “A Verdade” and a commander, a title granted by the Pope that gave him the lifelong right, among others, to own a residential chapel and build others wherever possible. The act of blessing the Chapel in Pacoti was impressive and pious not only because of the officiant, who was Metropolitan Archbishop Dom Lustosa, but also because of the attendance of representatives of various religious orders, authorities, countless Catholic associations, families and an incalculable mass of people. From Pacoti came the Sisters of Charity and students of the Patronage, Mayor Alarico Ribeiro, Judge Dr. Agostinho Filho and other authorities, in addition to countless people from all corners of the municipality. The ceremonies and liturgical prayers were sung by the Archbishop and the “escola cantorum” of the Capuchin Novitiate of Guaramiranga. After blessing the temple, D. Antonio blessed the images on the various altars and the impressive monument erected on the other side of the road that serves as a platform and replaced the original monument previously described. The following is the physical description of the Chapel on the day of its inauguration, adapted from the newspaper “A Verdade”: The Church of Jesus Crucified was built according to a plan designed by Ananias Arruda, who managed the construction services, which were carried out by the mason Clovis de Barros. It is located on the left bank of the Pacoti-Guaramiranga road, on a barrier 2 meters above the level of the road itself, which is reached by two marble staircases that end in an external portico above which rises a beautiful tower supported by columns and designed by Orlando Luna Freire according to the projected plan. It has 5 altars. The main altar, dedicated to the Crucified Jesus, is located in front of the portico of the tower with circular walls ending in a vault with green and white stained glass windows, one of which is in the shape of a Cross, in front of which is an image of the Crucified with images of the Sorrowful Virgin, St. John the Evangelist and St. Mary Magdalene at its feet. On the sides, interspersed with stained glass windows, are the altars of St. Ignatius of Loyola, whose feast day the Church celebrates on the day the late Donaninha was born, and of St. Sebastian, the saint of the day she was buried. At the lateral ends of the Church, which has an internal area of 14 meters by 4 meters, two recessed altars were built in the form of small chapels with vaults and stained glass windows in honor of St. Joseph, patron saint of a good death, and of St. Anne, the saint who gave her name to the late Donaninha. In the portico of the tower, next to the road, there is a beautiful statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus built in granite by the Bernardini Brothers of Rio de Janeiro. In the same portico, towards the center of the church, there is a thick glass window that provides a view of the entire interior of the church. On the right side of the road, in front of the church and next to the place where the late Donaninha was taken to God's bosom, there is a large cross with the image of Christ, at the foot of which, between planters, there are two marble tombstones. One, replacing the painting that had been placed previously, has an image of the Virgin and the portraits of Donaninha and her bitter husband made of porcelain, set between the same words as the old glass window. The other, which is located on the main pedestal, has a photograph of Donaninha in her deathbed, with the following inscription: Ana dos Santos Arruda, late consort of Ananias Arruda. He was born in Saboeiro on July 31, 1895, married in Baturité on September 17, 1911 and died in Pacoti on January 19, 1941. On the sides of the monument, between reinforced concrete planters, stand four large columns receiving symbolic angels, in front of which, at the beginning and end of the church stairs, there are four other columns also between planters and receiving another four angels.
