#cyclingtoursGehle #rivercyclepath #cycletour We start our next Weser cycle stage in Rinteln. High up from the tower of St. Nikolai Church we enjoy the view of the 750 year old former university and fortress town of Rinteln. From the town centre of Rinteln the Weser cycle path leads to the water paradise of Doktorsee, then continues through meadows and fields, past windmills, pretty half-timbered houses and small towns. In his commentary Reinhold Sonntag points out an alternative (although only at weekends): Instead of using the Weser bridge in Eisbergen (1:40), where there is usually heavy traffic, you can first cycle 2 km to Möllenbeck Monastery. The sign for this can be seen at (1:10). From there it is not far to Stemmer See. It is only a short distance from there to the Weser, where a ferry takes cyclists across at weekends. The main attraction on the edge of the Weser cycle path is the monumental Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial at the Porta Westfalica, which towers over the Weser. In Minden, a historic ship mill can be seen on the Weser. Minden is one of the oldest ship mill sites in Germany. In Minden town center is the Minden Cathedral, which is more than 1000 years old. It is considered the most beautiful hall church in Germany. One of the cathedral's most valuable art treasures is the Romanesque Minden Cross from the 11th century.
