Weigela is a beautifully flowering ornamental shrub. It blooms in early to mid-May and blooms for about a month. The flowering is so abundant that the bush turns into a flowering cloud. Some varieties of weigela tend to bloom again in late summer-autumn, but not so abundantly. Many varieties of weigela, in addition to luxurious flowering, delight with their decorative foliage: variegated, purple, yellow, etc. Weigela is an ideal shrub for a low-maintenance garden in regions with mild winters - up to 23-25 ​​degrees of frost for a short time. Below these temperatures, the shoots can freeze, and since weigela blooms on last year's shoots, there may be no flowering at all. Although the plant most often grows back in the spring. The most winter-hardy are the following types of weigela: early, Middendorf, pleasant, Maximovich. Also, according to information from other gardeners, the hybrid weigela variety Rosea winters well without shelter in the northern regions. Weigela is one of my favorite shrubs, so I have collected a small collection of weigelas in my garden, today it has 15 varieties. Some have been growing for 6 years, some are still very young.
