Tonight, colleague Gerlinde looks back on the past year. 2024 was the year of the Oosterweel connection crossing. In the spring, the motorway works on the left bank and in Zwijndrecht were completed. In the meantime, we prepared the arrival of a new tunnel on both the left and right banks of the Scheldt. For this purpose, we built 8 tunnel elements in Zeebrugge. In the port of Antwerp, the fish from the construction zones for even more tunnels - the Channel Tunnels - were given a new home. Between the Oosterweel church and the Maritime College, we demarcated the zone where the construction pit for the Oosterweel junction will be located, which will connect all the tunnels. Finally, next to the existing R1 in Merksem and Deurne, the pillars for the Bypass - the temporary motorway - shot up like mushrooms.
