Detecting, treating and preventing dementia: The new 'S3 Guideline on Dementia' from November 2023 provides scientifically sound, so-called evidence-based information on this. With the help of concrete recommendations for action, the quality of treatment and care for those affected is to be improved. The guideline is aimed at all professional groups involved in the care of people with dementia. Those affected and their relatives can also use the guideline as a source of information. In 2010, the 'S3 Guideline on Dementia' was first developed by the German Society of Neurology (DGN) and the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN). In the most recent version of the guideline, for example, new recommendations are given for the early detection of Alzheimer's dementia and the aspects of the ability to consent and suitability to drive of people with dementia have been newly included. Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Richard Dodel holds the chair for geriatrics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen. On behalf of the DGN, he was the guideline coordinator together with Prof. Dr. med. Jessen (DGPPN) in the creation of the 'S3 guideline on dementia'. In the webinar, he will present the most important innovations and recommendations for action.
