In the summer periods of 2026, 2027 and 2028, Rijkswaterstaat will thoroughly renovate the Van Brienenoord Bridge. We will replace the two large arches, as well as a number of bridge valves and the movement mechanism. This is a so-called '1 on 1 replacement'. This means that the renovated bridge will remain largely the same as it is now. The renovation of the Van Brienenoord Bridge is a unique and complicated operation that unfortunately also causes inconvenience. For road traffic, shipping and for residents and businesses in the area. We believe it is important to properly inform local residents and other stakeholders about the renovation of the Van Brienenoord Bridge. That is why we organised an online webinar on Wednesday evening 25 May 2022 from 19:00 to 20:30. You can watch this webinar in its entirety in this video. #VanBrienenoord Bridge #renovation #webinar ________________________________ The Van Brienenoord Bridge (A16) is a true Rotterdam icon. More than 230,000 vehicles drive over it every day: it is the busiest bridge in the Netherlands. But the bridge is also outdated. As a result of this intensive load, the bridge is showing signs of wear and tear and the chance of disruptions is increasing. That is why we will be renewing the Van Brienenoord Bridge from 2026. After this work, the bridge will be completely ready for the next generations.
