Military production in World War II includes weapons, ammunition, personnel, and financing mobilized for the war. The mobilization of funds, people, natural resources, and material for the production and supply of military equipment and forces during World War II was a critical component of the war effort. Billions of items were produced! And after the war, what happened to the weapons and equipment produced? Since I started the Journey in History channel, I have received suggestions for topics from time to time. These are wide-ranging, but one in particular seems to be very popular: the general question of how the world “cleaned up” the battlefields of World War II after the war. In researching and taking a historical journey through the topic, I was surprised at how little is written about the topic that involves facts unknown to many, so I decided to make this video, which does not deal with major decisive battles still today in World War II or the great generals and their decisions in the war room of their country. The fate of the weapons of World War II was very varied. From simply disposing of weapons at sea to recycling weapons and war equipment into raw materials for other equipment, anything went. One of the reasons why the battlefields of World War II did not remain littered with vehicles for long was that, with the sole exception of the United States, all major powers at war made some level of official combat use of enemy weapons captured during World War II. Many captured weapons did not have time to be destroyed and ended up being used in insurrections or revolutions immediately after the end of World War II, such as in Greece. When the war ended, larger equipment, such as vehicles of all types, were simply thrown into the ocean. A large amount of everything that was produced was dumped into the sea. This was especially true for the American forces, who found it too expensive to bring it up, so they dumped it into the ocean. In short, the fate of the weapons and war equipment was not the same. This is the story that we tell today in our video, taking a historical tour of the places where it all happened.
