This week, the SH channel visited Badajoz, the beautiful Extremaduran city on the banks of the Guadiana River that was founded in the 9th century by Ibn Marwán. The city has an impressive Alcazaba, one of the largest in Europe, which offers panoramic views of the city and the Guadiana River. The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, with its fortress-like appearance, is another of the outstanding monuments, reflecting the history and Gothic architecture of the region. We cannot leave Badajoz without visiting its Provincial Archaeological Museum, the beautiful and lively Plaza Alta, the Iglesia de la Soledad and its surprising upper chapel that imitates the throne room of Neuschwanstein Castle, the famous fairy-tale castle built by Luis II in Bavaria "The Mad". It also stands out for its leafy parks where you can breathe tranquility and the scent of flowers (we visited the Jardín de la Galera and the Jardín de Castelar). We walked along the pleasant Paseo Fluvial next to the river. We wander through the narrow streets of the historic centre until we see the very curious Giralda of Seville. Badajoz is a city that is very unknown to tourists, much more attracted by the Roman historical heritage of Mérida. But it is a city that falls in love when you know it thoroughly. I invite you to get to know it. The Tourism page of the Badajoz City Council can help you plan your trip: https://www.turismobadajoz.es/
