The history of what we now know as Ex Fabbrica Beghelli actually begins in 1963 when Prinz Brau, an important German beer producing company, decided to invest in the Italian market and open four large breweries in our country, including one on the outskirts of Bologna (Crespellano). The plant produced beer from 1963 to 1997, first for Prinz Brau and then for Birra Moretti Spa. After closing, the industrial area was taken over in 1998 by Beghelli Spa, a well-known company founded in 1982 that operates in the electronics and security sector. Over the years, the company has developed enormously, entering the field of energy saving, domestic and industrial security systems, anti-intrusion systems, remote assistance and tele-rescue, always offering new and highly innovative products. Just to give a few examples, we remember the gas leak detectors, the Telesalvalavita or the Beghelli SOS Center, an operations center always open for immediate assistance. In 1998 the company was listed on the stock exchange and in the following years it began a major development abroad with the opening of branches in the Czech Republic, Canada, Germany, the United States and China. Then came the great economic/financial crisis that from 2008 to 2012 sank the economies of Western countries. Beghelli found itself facing a significant reduction in turnover and a strong exposure to banks; to deal with the crisis, urgent measures were taken such as; downsizing of production abroad, concentration of production in Emilia Romagna, renegotiation of debt with banks and putting up for sale the prestigious headquarters on the outskirts of Bologna, which is the subject of this video. Fortunately, thanks to this reorganization and restructuring program, together with the launch of new innovative products, the company managed to overcome the serious moment of crisis and relaunch its production activity. It is worth highlighting the foresight of Beghelli management which, in a period in which many entrepreneurs have no qualms about relocating production abroad to reduce management costs, instead acts in counter-trend by reducing production abroad and bringing it back to our country in order to save and preserve the many jobs otherwise at risk, which is no small thing in times like these. Beghelli management has demonstrated great awareness of the social function that the company has in the territory; the company should not be a money machine for the sole benefit of the entrepreneur but, on the contrary, must be a development engine for the territory in which it is located and an instrument of emancipation for the people who live and work in that same territory. Several years after abandonment, we visit the abandoned Ex Headquarters. The offices and the factory are still in excellent condition and there are few signs of degradation (apart from a few bathrooms destroyed by the usual idiots...). We hope that the entire area can be redeveloped as soon as possible and reused for productive purposes or, why not, social purposes. As a final note, we must note that even these abandoned spaces...are not so abandoned as they are used by several people as a bivouac.
