This week, SH channel wanted to learn more about Cadiz, the city founded by the Phoenicians around 1100 BC. Cadiz has been an important port and commercial centre over the centuries, influenced by various cultures, including the Romans, Visigoths, Muslims and Christians. It has a fascinating history, a real treasure for archaeologists, historians and anyone who likes places full of monuments and relics from the past. The old town of Cadiz is a labyrinth of narrow streets and charming squares, with architecture that reflects its rich history. We visited beautiful places such as the Old Cathedral (now converted into a parish), the Holy and Apostolic Cathedral of Cadiz, the Roman Theatre of Cadiz, the Central Market, the Castle of San Sebastian (temporarily open to the public until 31 December), La Caleta beach, the Castle of Santa Catalina, the Genovés Park, the Baluarte de la Candelaria, the Alameda Apodaca, the Plaza Mina, the Museum of Cadiz, the Oratory of San Felipe Neri where the first Spanish constitution was proclaimed, the Constitution of 1812, known as "La Pepa"... We also visited several churches and monuments, as well as the interesting Gadir Archaeological Site to learn about the rich history of Cadiz, the Phoenician Gadir. Finally, we relaxed in the Cadiz night watching the inauguration of the Christmas lights and tasted fried fish, a specialty of Cadiz cuisine. If you want to plan your weekend in Tacita de Plata, the official website of the Cadiz City Council will be very helpful: https://turismo.cadiz.es/
