It was the fishing season in Mato Grosso do Sul and we were all eager to begin the adventure. However, we were on the most difficult river to navigate in the region, known for launching and knocking down many kayakers. Our kayaks were loaded, looking like Chinese TUC TUC scooters, with so many gadgets. We were carrying some materials in the cargo to make improvements to our camping site. And anyone who kayaks knows that the more weight, the greater the risk and difficulties in navigation. We faced several rapids, vegetation blocking the river and whitewashed trees along the way. Think of a difficult place to navigate and multiply it by 100. But the difficulties did not shake us, we faced the entire difficult route with our heads held high, fished and had a lot of fun. We came across a WILD TAPIR (Tapirus terrestris). The animal stared at me head on and came towards me. We were less than 5 meters apart. It was exciting. We arrived at our camp early in the evening. Setting up camp during the day is already hard work, imagine the night in a closed space in the virgin forest. We had a barbecue, drank like Vikings, ate like kings and slept with children. Dawn broke at the camp, the birds were all over the place. After a stifling night, the day dawned beautiful and full of sounds of nature, sounds that relax and calm the mind. We went to bed late, cleaning up the camp site that had been abandoned for years, but the work was not finished yet. We had a hearty breakfast and started to get organized. We built a table, also called a giral. This table would help us a lot during our stay at the camp. The rain came and went quickly, but we put up a tarp to protect ourselves. The forecast was for more rain. Soon after, the sun was blazing hot and almost cooked us under the canopy. We made rice and piraputanga ceviche, had a quick lunch and went fishing. As soon as we left, the weather was already showing signs of rain, but we didn't give up and continued up the river, rowing and pulling the kayak through the water. Halfway through the fishing, the weather got worse and lots of lightning, flashes and thunder started to worry us. Fishing in the water in the middle of an electrical storm is not a very safe thing to do, the risk of electrical discharges increases considerably. We had no choice because we were in the middle of nowhere and had to keep going. Even in the middle of the storm, we managed to catch some fish and despite our worries, we had a lot of fun.
