A luxury resort-like house where nothing is lacking, from the pool to the scenery. Let’s visit the ‘village’ where they live. In Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, there is a house located in a place where cool waves and lush trees are in harmony. The owners of the six houses with the same exterior are none other than the six friends. In their youth, when they had many dreams and were full of passion, they ran blindly forward. Before they knew it, 40 years had passed without them having time to take care of themselves and their families. When some people thought it was too late to start something new, they decided to start the second act of their lives. They decided to take out the pieces of their youth that they had forgotten while living busy lives. That’s how the friends started to gather one by one on Jeju Island. And they realized their common first bucket list, ‘Building a house together and living together.’ Their first bucket list, a house, that perfectly stands out in nature. What kind of house did they build that makes it look like a luxury resort? First, they didn’t miss any small details. If a house is pretty to look at but has many architectural flaws, the satisfaction level of the house will decrease. On the other hand, a house that is not pretty and emphasizes only functionality will also not be appealing. Thanks to their know-how from 40 years of working life, they did not tolerate errors in small details. A representative example is adjusting the width of the wood on the exterior wall to give it a sense of rhythm. In addition, they made the house with an overall sense of unity, such as slanting the window frames for drainage and using the same materials and methods for the mailbox and dog house. Second, they built a wooden house that is resistant to moisture. They made a bold choice to build a wooden house on Jeju Island. They say they couldn’t give up the wooden house because they considered it their top priority to blend in naturally with the surrounding nature. They focused on removing moisture by using rain screen construction methods that make the wooden structure into a lattice so that water falls vertically, water-blocking grooves, hybrid construction methods that combine the concrete structure at the bottom with the wooden house, and even carbonized wood that increases durability by high-temperature treatment. Third, it is a house with all the amenities. When you think of a luxury resort, you tend to think of amenities that allow you to solve everything without having to go outside. Here, too, each house has six amenities that they manage and use together. They created a space where you can solve everything without having to leave the front door, such as a swimming pool, outdoor bathtub, central garden, and gym. In particular, they say that the secret weapon swimming pool that can be enjoyed in all four seasons is shared not only with the six friends but also with their neighbors. In other words, it is playing the role of a ‘healing spot’ for everyone. The friends who have been together since their youth are now in their 60s.
