From Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Roncesvalles: The First Stage of the Camino de Santiago Today we begin our journey along the Camino de Santiago, starting from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, a picturesque French town at the foot of the Pyrenees. Today's stage was challenging, but absolutely rewarding! ????♂️ Distance: 25 km ⏳ Duration: About 10 hours ???? Elevation: Steep climb to 1,450 meters altitude on the Col de Lepoeder ???????? Hostel: Gîte BIDEAN 11 rue d'Espagne 64220 SAINT JEAN PIED DE PORT France This first stage is known for being one of the most challenging on the route, with steep climbs and stunning landscapes (which in our case was a little affected by the fog). Crossing the Pyrenees is a mix of physical and mental effort. Each step takes us closer to Roncesvalles, Spain, where a beautiful medieval monastery awaits pilgrims. Along the way, we were treated to spectacular views of mountains, dense forests, wild beauty of nature and special people. Arriving in Roncesvalles was like a feeling of great achievement. The spirit of the Camino de Santiago has already begun to manifest, and we can't wait to see what the next stages have in store! ???? Next stop: Zubiri!
