Ski technician Andreas Breitel shows you how you can easily wax your skis yourself in just a few steps, at home or on vacation. Do you wax your skis yourself or take them to a ski service? You are welcome to write us a comment. Summary: 00:00 - Start at the Explorer workbench 00:50 - Tools required 01:41 - Prepare skis 02:26 - Clean skis 04:42 - Wax skis 12:51 - Clean ski edges 14:27 - Strip skis 17:24 - Finish skis Here is a quick overview of everything you need to wax your skis yourself: • Ski wax • Ski cleaner • Base brushes • Waxing iron • Stripping blade • Microfiber cloth, paper towels • Ski holder You can also find all of these products in the Explorer Hotels at the workbench in the ski area. First, the ski is prepared for waxing and clamped into the ski holder with the base side facing up. You clamp the ski brakes with a rubber band so that they don't get in the way when you wax. Before you start waxing your skis, you have to clean your skis, because only a clean base surface can be treated with wax. First, brush the base with a bronze brush and then apply base cleaner (wax remover). After it has worked for a few minutes, rub the dirt off the base with absorbent paper. Then polish the base surface briefly with a microfiber cloth. After you have cleaned the skis, you can start waxing. There are different ways of applying ski wax; expert Andreas shows you how to iron it on here. Basically, there are 3 different types of wax depending on the snow temperature: yellow for warm snow, blue for icy snow and red wax for everything in between. With a special wax iron, you can then adjust the temperature of the iron to the different types of wax. To wax your skis properly, melt your preferred type of wax on a hot iron and drip it over the entire ski in a serpentine line. Then let the iron glide over the ski and iron the wax in thoroughly. The hotter the wax gets, i.e. the more often you run over the ski, the better it can penetrate the ski. The ski deforms due to the heat, which is why it is important to only clamp the ski at the front and back and not in the middle. While the ski and the wax are still warm, take the plastic scraper and first remove the wax from the edges. Then let the ski cool down for a few hours so that the wax hardens and the ski returns to its original shape. After the waiting time, the excess wax must be removed from the surface. This is again done with a sharp plastic scraper. You can now clamp the ski in the middle and push the excess wax material off the ski until hardly any wax comes off. Now the ski needs to be made ready for use by exposing the grooves in the ski with a bronze or nylon brush. First, brush the ski with the coarse bronze brush and wipe away the residue with the microfiber cloth. Then go over it again with the nylon brush, which also has a polishing effect and smoothes the surface. A little expert tip at the end. If you need to wax quickly or you are out skiing, the wax is also available in liquid form to spray on. If you liked the video, give it a thumbs up & click on Subscribe so you don't miss anything.
