This video goes from Plangeroß, via the Kaunergrathütte, towards Watzespitze. After a short start-up problem (car keys locked in the car) I started off alone. The car park is at the edge of town. From here it goes downstream to the first signpost. From here it's always uphill (officially 3.5 hours to the hut). A short time later I had to overcome some fallen trees - the result of the storm the day before. After I reached the tree line I was able to leave this problem behind me. Now the terrain became more open, the meadows lusher and the first glimpse of the Watzespitze could be caught. Looking back at the opposite side of the mountain you could also see the Rüsselsheimer Hütte. The weather got increasingly worse so that the rain gear had to be unpacked. We continued through a valley basin, which had a fairly steep path at the end. After fighting our way up, I was able to catch my first glimpse of the Kaunergrathütte. The final climb to the hut was on slabs, alternating with gravel. After 2.5 hours I was able to reach the hut and waited for Toni, who was able to open the vehicle with the help of the ADAC. Unfortunately, the night was very bad from my point of view (kept awake, several trips to the toilet and therefore little sleep). Nevertheless, we set off early at 6:30 a.m., down the moraine and over thick rocks up to the snowfield. Here I had to admit to myself that the previous and especially short nights had had a negative effect on my body. Plagued by headaches and slight dizziness, we unfortunately had to abandon our plan early.
