The game takes place in the post-apocalyptic exclusion zone of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The player survives in the Zone by monitoring numerous indicators, such as hunger and sleep, ignoring which will lead to exhaustion and death. The player can collect and store various items in the inventory, but there is a limit on the weight that can be carried. Among the items are medicines, food, weapons, ammunition, armor, and so on. At the same time, armor and weapons gradually wear out. Traveling through the Zone, the player can get into a fight with mutants or other stalkers. When receiving damage, bleeding may appear, taking away even more health. The bodies of killed stalkers can be searched or dragged. There are anomalies in the Zone - dangerous formations that injure or kill on contact. The player can "probe" their boundaries by throwing bolts. Sometimes, in anomalies, with the help of special detectors, you can find artifacts - valuable items that can be hung on your belt, which can give both useful and harmful effects. In the stalker camps, the player can find traders, technicians, and doctors providing the appropriate services. The game claims to have the A-Life 2.0 life simulation system. The system should generate random encounters based on what is happening around the player and what happened earlier. In 2006, the second disaster occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, as a result of which the physical, chemical, and biological processes in this area changed, many anomalies, artifacts, and mutant creatures appeared. At the same time, valuable artifacts attracted many people calling themselves stalkers to the Zone. They began to penetrate the Zone, bypassing military checkpoints, seeking to get rich or find the truth about what happened. The game takes place in 2021. The main character of the game is a stalker nicknamed Skif, who traded faded artifacts "empty" on the mainland. On a fateful day, one of the artifacts activated and destroyed his house, leaving behind an unusual "empty". Skif contacted scientist Herman, who promised that if this "dummy" was recharged using a special scanner in the Zone, it would be possible to get a lot of money. In desperation, Skif and Herman went to the ChZO, hoping that it would be a short walk. However, everything did not go according to plan - the stalker Pripoy gave up the heroes to the IUCN. Skif escapes, but is caught by a group of unknown people who rob him and knock him unconscious. Skif woke up in the middle of an anomalous field with nothing and a dog gnawing his leg. The stalker Richter helps him get out by giving him a bolt.
