This is why it is important that before starting the renewal of your card you take these issues into account. LETTING YOUR RESIDENCY CARD EXPIRE The first piece of advice we give you when renewing your card is not to let it expire. For this reason, and as always, we recommend that you start renewing before your card expires. Immigration regulations state that you can start renewing your card within the 60 days prior to its expiration, or within the 90 days after the validity of your card. You can renew within both periods, but the ideal is to always do so before it expires. If you renew within the 90 days after, you can renew as such, but the Immigration Office could fine you. Important Note: If you are renewing a Residence Card for a Family Member of a Community Citizen, the deadline for renewing it is different. Here you can do it within the 30 days prior to the expiration of your card or within the 90 days after. WAIT FOR THE RENEWAL LETTER Don't wait for the letter that is usually sent to remind you that your card is expiring soon. Sometimes, these letters never arrive.
