Would you like to know how long you can be outside of Spanish territory without losing your residency? Answer in this video! ⚠️ Without a doubt, one of the most important requirements to renew your card: not to stay longer than the time allowed by law outside of Spain. Going over this limit can mean the extinction of your residency. So, how long exactly is this maximum time? We find two different cases: ???? TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD For temporary residencies of 1 or 2 years, the maximum period allowed outside the country is 6 months per year. That is, you must remain a minimum of 183 days per year in Spain to be able to renew. In addition, sporadic exits cannot add up to more than 1 year in total during the period of the last 5. From when do we start counting? These rules must be met by going exactly one year back in time and counting forward, regardless of the month or day you are in. It is not possible to recover your card once it has expired for this reason. ???? LONG-TERM RESIDENCE CARD In the chaos of permanent or indefinite residences, the deadlines are longer. You can be, at most, outside of Spain for 12 months to be able to renew. And sporadic exits cannot add up to more than 30 months within a period of 5 years. In this case, the count begins from the moment you leave the country, and ends at the moment of entry. Unlike the previous case, if your card expires due to excessive time outside, you can recover it, either at the Spanish consulate in your country of origin or directly within Spain (at an immigration office). ????
