For the first time, a documentary about the war has delved into the pain, torment and obsession of soldiers on the other side of the front line, those we once considered enemies. More than half a century later, there are American veterans who have returned to Vietnam for the first time, facing the old battlefield and searching for the remains of martyrs that they had buried with their own hands. The film brings to the audience unforgettable moments, when soldiers who used to be enemies now hold hands and consider each other friends, when American veterans who used to point guns and cannons at us now hold hands and light incense, bow their heads and cry before the graves of martyrs, and over the years when the pain and memories that American veterans wanted to bury have now become extremely valuable in the search and collection of martyrs' remains. The film also impressed viewers when recreating the fierce battle on the night of December 26, 1966 in the Xuan Son hill area, Binh Dinh. Our soldiers fought very bravely, but in the end, they sacrificed themselves too painfully. After 56 years, the mass grave that buried 60 of our martyrs was found. It was heartbreaking that when the soldiers were found, their flesh and bones had already merged with the motherland, leaving only the relics that they had kept with them. There are still other graves that have not been found and the next generation is always anxious and longing to bring the martyrs back. Watching the film, we also realize that it is the vague and fragmented memories of American veterans that are a valuable source of information for us to continue searching.
